The Questing Host
by Frank Pearce Sturm
With sad thoughts drifting into dreams, with tired heart,
I turn from the white candles and the open page,
And on worn tapestries of immemorial age
See knight and saint and lady play their part.
Among the tall, straight, woven trees and turrets gray,
These hunt the leaping deer, and these make silent love;
And one ecstatic maid beneath a haloed dove,
With white face bends upon a book to pray.
And near them hover in the still, dream-haunted room,
The spirits of forgotten times, the host of night:
Helen's red lips and glorious eys are faded quite,
And Palomide beneath his shadowy plume
Rides through gaunt spectral woods upon his hopeless quest;
Unnumbered phantoms of old heroes hurry by;
The candles flicker, the dreams vanish, and I cry;
"Not even in dreams is any peace or rest."
Cold
I watch them come
Stripped to the waist
Enter slowly levitating
Arms the endless lake
The waterline, the start of fear
And the end too
Hardly a transition
Fear endlessly renews
I am no witness
I can’t even speak
You, you are absolved, your voice, you act you are not weak
I am no acolyte
I can’t even pray
You, you are an astral body, the søn, the star of day
Nothing will hurt you, brother, you will be fine.
Trust and you’ll have power according to your mind
What is it that pulls you on towards humility?
Point for me, your holy hands, you know I cannot see.
I ask too much, I cannot even see your hands.
I have no brothers. I’m not a man.
Nothing can touch you, brother, you will be strong.
Receive illumination, you cannot be wrong
I don’t believe in old worlds,
But the new one is for you
I won’t say you’re any purer
Than the morning dew
I won’t say I’ll follow
I’m already behind
It’s yours to beat the hidden path
That I will try to find
